Preschool education
Preschool education is the initial component in the system of continuous education, the formation and development of personality. It ensures the development, training and education of a child, is based on the combination of the family and public education, achievements of the national sciences, gains of the world pedagogical experience, and facilitates the formation of values of democratic legal society in Ukraine.
The state policy in the area of the preschool education is determined by the Constitution of Ukraine and other legislative acts, and it is embodied by the central executive authorities of the Autonomous Republic Crimea, oblast state administrations, Kyiv and Sevastopol state city administrations, local executive and self-governing bodies.
The very first environment, where a child appears in, is a preschool institution (infant school). There is a wide network of infant schools in Ukraine, which differ from each other by their forms, contents and directions of work. At the beginning of this year, 16.3 thousand kindergartens have been attended by 983 thousand children, that constitutes 49% of the total number of the children population.
The aforementioned state policy, methods of its implementation cause to diversify and improve the pedagogical process. Different types of preschool institutions: institutions of general development, compensating or profile institutions with the priority implementation of one or more program directions of the development of their pupils (intellectual, artistic-esthetical, physical, etc.) operate in each region of Ukraine. The network of educational-training institutions "Preschool Educational Institution - General Educational Institution" has been widened.
At present, the state Basic component of the preschool education serves as the guiding line in the work of all employees of the preschool education. Efforts of scientists, methodologists and creative experts are directed to the program-methodical provision of such component. The basic state "Program of the development of peculiarities of children of pre-school age" is in process of its creation. Until this work has not been completed yet, the adjusted and renewed programs of the development, education and training in the kindergarten "Malyatko (published) and "Dytyna" (to be published), as well as recommendation to them were developed in order to assist teachers. For the successful functioning of different types of preschool institutions, the integral systems of variant programs and methodical references to them are in process of being developed.
The transition to a 12 year education starting from 2001, that begins at the age of 6, raises new tasks for the preschool education - to provide the earlier psychophysical readiness of a child for the school life.
Recently, kindergarten-schools become more and more popular. They ensure the continuity of education and carrying on at the elementary school those directions of children's development (moral and spiritual, physical, aesthetic), which have been implemented in their preschool childhood.
The conditions of the present day Ukraine make possible the creation of such system of the preschool education, that would use in full the achievements of the ethnological pedagogics, domestic and international pedagogical conceptions.
